How to Control Your Cravings

The Reader’s Digest recently discussed ten tips to defeat and prevent hungry cravings.

Go nuts. Drink two glasses of water and eat an ounce of nuts (6 walnuts, 12 almonds or 20 peanuts). Within 20 minutes, this can extinguish your craving and dampen your appetite by changing your body chemistry, says RD’s “Health IQ” columnist Michael F. Roizen, MD.

Everyone is different, but this technique works for me. Try it! Remember, like anything in life, nuts can get old fast. Don’t be afraid to put your own spin to it. Be creative!

Other tips include power napping, rewarding yourself within limits, and enjoying a cup of coffee.

yes, even with a two glass of water.. you are full already.. nut is protein and it’s healthy for us too.. :)

My fav snack to control hunger and cravings for carbs…dry unsalted almonds, walnuts, pine nuts, dried blueberries, and dried cranberries. Mix together and eat or sprinkle in yogurt or with fresh fruit like grapefruit or orange slices.

The protein keeps hunger and cravings down and there’s lots of great fatty acids, anti-oxidants and other nutrients in there.

Hi Miguel,

I work for 8:30- 17:30 and usually have lunch break at 12:30. But sometimes there are crisis moments at around 16:00. I usually eat biscuits which is not healthy. Never tried “go nuts” before. I guess it will work for me too. Will try. Thanks a lot!

thanks for sharing, I’ll have to try your snack sometime, and let you know how everything goes. Sounds good, I can picture it now! Almonds are essential, as well as other nuts. I’m always open to eating new healthy snacks, especially if it tames my cravings.

I have realized that sometimes when I think I am hungry, I just want the chewing sensation. I found if I chew mint gum, it satisfies my chewing plus gives me a little sweet treat.
