Weight- Loss Plateau: 4 Effective Tips to Continue Weight Loss

Hit a weight loss plateau?
I stumbled upon an interesting article that reminded me of how necessary it is to change up our workout routines, especially when your body reaches a weight loss plateau.
I remember learning about hitting a weight loss plateau during my freshmen year at ORU.
Our bodies do an excellent job with becoming immune to particular workouts. Therefore, what worked for you will not continue to benefit you. Last summer when I started running outdoors, it was only a matter of time before I knew that these sames workout were not going do it for me anymore.
Surprise your body with different workout as often as possible.
The article notes that ” trainers recommend changing workout regimens every six to eight weeks to keep weight loss on track.”

Simply tips to modify your workout:
- Try Interval Training
High/intensive workouts followed by short periods of low activity. Interval training helps to reduce body fat even after your workout is complete. [More on this]
- Focus on Muscle Endurance
Lifting for endurance means more reps with lighter weight instead of less reps with more weight.
- Go Swimming
A total body workout, swimming will challenge those muscles you forget about.
- Substitute weekly routine with completive sports
Get outdoors, play a pick up game of football, soccer, or maybe even volleyball. Involvement in high intense activities push your body to the max; playing sports is another excellent option for anyone looking to shake up their normal exercise routines.

Hey Heidi
You bet! Please be sure to let me know how it goes. I’m going to try swimming more often. Thanks for commenting!
Hey Miguel,
This is a great tip that I’ll keep in mind 4-6 weeks from now when I switch things up!

Nice tip with the swimming. When I hit a plateau that is what I add to my workout. In fact I save swimming until I am about 4 weeks in to my routine. It always seems to speed up the process. Now that spring is here its time to get going again.
hey Trish
Thanks! I enjoy adding new works and making tweaks to my routine. For me, challenging myself is a must, or else it becomes boring.
For those weight lifters out there, lift for muscle endurance instead of strength. That means, less weight with more reps instead of heavy weight with low reps.
Thanks for visiting and sharing Trish.
I think the most important factor for working out is that you enjoy it. Exercise is like a job - if we do it repetively and mindlessly we lose interest and don’t put our best efforts into it. Changing it up makes things new and fresh for a while.
Your suggestions are really helpful!
